Te Mata House | NZIA Gisbourne & Hawkes Bay Housing Awards Winner

We are delighted to share that Te Mata House has won a Housing Category Award at the NZIA Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne Architecture Awards 2025. Designed to feel deliberately immersed in its setting, the house responds to the shifting moods of Te Mata Peak and the Tukituki Valley, embracing light, mist and landscape as central parts of daily life.

Rather than resting on the site, the design grows from it. Low concrete block walls emerge from the ground, native grasses extend right to the building’s edge, and a deep roof plane creates a sheltered, retreat-like interior while framing expansive views. The result is a home that balances lightness and gravity, offering a calm and enduring connection to its environment.

This recognition celebrates both the strength of the design concept and the collaboration behind the project. We are incredibly proud to see Te Mata House acknowledged in this year’s awards and grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life.
